ABOUT GEORGE
George Smitherman is a Director of BIOME with more than 30 years of experience in public service and government having served at the Municipal, Provincial and Federal levels both as an elected politician and in support of senior office holders.
Mr. Smitherman served as a Member of the Ontario Legislature for a 10-year period in both opposition and government.
For 5 years Mr. Smitherman was Minister of Health in Ontario and responsible for the largest operating budget of any government department in Canada. Additionally Mr. Smitherman served as Minister of Energy and Infrastructure where he championed green energy and coordinated Provincial funding of 2,800 infrastructure projects in response to the 2008 global financial crisis.
Following an ill-fated run to become Mayor of Toronto in 2010 Mr. Smitherman shifted his focus to the private sector and has participated in the start up and growth of several companies. Mr. Smitherman has experience in the Cannabis sector having led an application to become a licensed producer. Mr. Smitherman serves a Director of two other publically traded companies, THC Biomeds and Ceylon Graphite.
